July 2015 Newsletter
“Houston, we have a problem!” Things are obviously not right in our world these days. Not just our country, but the entire world. From high gas prices, high food costs, high living costs, wars around the world, to the worsening economy, things are not going well. I think it’s obvious to everyone that we cannot sustain how things are going; something has to give, something must change, and I think that something is us.
Perhaps it’s time for us to start to broaden our horizons about how we see the world, our place in it and how we see ourselves. Maybe things are not as we believe them to be. Not because we’re being lied to by the leaders of the world(which we are, but that’s a topic for another day!!), but because everything that we were taught growing up about how the world around us works, how our bodies work, how our emotions and thoughts work, etc., wasn’t the full story.
In past newsletters, I’ve touched upon the topic of self responsibility as it relates to our health and well being. I think now more than ever, we, as individuals, must really step up and change the direction of where we’re heading. We can’t afford to see our health and well-being deteriorate, both literally and figuratively. And the usual things we hear, that there’s nothing we can do about it, that “it’s just old age” or “it’s your genes, sorry”, just don’t cut it anymore. Not when there’s so much information and research available now that completely goes against the old models and scientifically proves how things such as prayer, our beliefs, and our thoughts, for example, can change our health, for better or for worse. The new study of epigenetics, that you’ll hear about in the second video, shows beyond a doubt that our beliefs, our perceptions, change our genes. That our genes are not “written in stone and preordained” as we were once taught. We’re really just scratching the surface about how our consciousness profoundly effects our health and well-being, and how it effects everything else for that matter!
Our bodies and minds are remarkable and have a healing capacity beyond our imagination, if only given the right opportunity to do so. As you’ll see from some of the stories below, we have more control over our bodies and our destinies then we could have ever imagined. The idea that our thoughts, both positive and negative, can change our reality and our health, is just starting to be realized and I’ll have more on that topic in future newsletters. The idea of incorporating the mind and spirit back into healthcare, and not just focusing on the physical body, is another shift that is slowly happening. Alternative healthcare practitioners, such as homeopaths, chiropractors, acupuncturists, naturopaths, etc., have been practicing this way forever, but finally some in mainstream medicine are starting to catch on.
