to believe the year is half over, but here we are in July already. For this month's newsletter, I've selected
a few articles dealing with various healthcare issues since healthcare reform is on the front burner these days in Washington,
finally! The first article is a rebuttal by Deepak Chopra to a very biased article in Newsweek magazine about Oprah Winfrey
and the various guests that she has on her show to discuss health issues and treatments that you may not find on the evening
news. I think he does a very nice job of explaining why there is such a big pushback from mainstream medicine regarding alternative
methods and practices. The next article is an interview with Michael Pollan, author of The Omnivore's Dilemma,
about a new movie that just came out called Food, Inc. It's a documentary about our industrialized food industry and it helps
to pull the curtain back to expose what's really going on with our food supply. The third article is about a very
controversial subject, vaccinations. Given how fast the government and pharmaceutical companies are rushing this swine flu
vaccine into production and distribution, and the talk of making it mandatory for every American and possibly for every
person on this planet, I thought it might be pertinent to present another side of the story; again, one you won't hear about
in mainstream media. For a flu that they've determined to be relatively mild, it just gives me pause when I see how fast and
furious their moving. My aim is not to persuade you one way or the other regarding vaccines, but rather to give you as
much information as possible so that you can make an informed decision regarding your health and the health of your
families. Finally, the last article is a nice Op-ed piece from Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa about shifting America
to a wellness model of healthcare from the current sickness model we are in. Also, to the left I put a link
to another CSA that my wife and I found called Abundant Harvest Organics. They have a pick up site at Topanga and Dumetz on
Saturday mornings. So take a look and see what you think. We ordered a box last week and were very impressed with everything
in it. As always, I hope you enjoy the articles and I encourage your feedback regarding the topics discussed in
the newsletters. In Good Health, Dr. Grosman |
| Why the Medical Industry Is Lashing Out at
Oprah Winfrey By Deepak Chopra A recent cover story in a struggling news magazine, under
the title "Crazy Talk:" accuses Oprah Winfrey of spreading "dubious advice" in a wide range of health
issues from menopause and hormone replacement therapy to autism, cancer, aging, and weight loss. The tone of the article was
the same tiresome blend of gotcha journalism and selective fact-reporting that fills tabloid coffers.

Author Michael Pollan on "Food Inc."
and How to Eat Well The last few years have been interesting times for food and eating
habits, as "slow food," locavores and farmer's markets have entered mainstream conversations about how we eat. This
spring saw Michelle Obama planting the first garden on White House grounds since the era of President Roosevelt. One of the
Pied Pipers leading the movement to eat more fresh, local fruits, vegetables and meats has been author Michael Pollan.

The Infant Vaccination Controversy
Most parents dutifully take their infants to the doctor or clinic at the prescribed times to be vaccinated. Generally,
it doesn't occur to them to question this public health institution. However, growing numbers of doctors, scientists and parents
have become suspicious about the long-term implications of what some consider a national experiment posturing as solid science.
It could be said that the development of immunization theory has been compromised by the theory's very successes. Click Here to Read More...... |
Shifting America from sick care to genuine
wellness With the Senate health committee convening daily to craft a comprehensive health reform bill, the
basic outline of this landmark legislation is now clear. Yes, it will ensure access to affordable, quality care for
every American. But, just as important, it will hold down health care costs by creating a sharp new emphasis on disease
prevention and public health. Click Here to Read More..... |
