Chiropractic Chiropractic (“Chiro”
– hands, “Practic” – done by) is a hands on approach to assisting the body’s innate intelligence
to heal itself. It utilizes a holistic approach to health by looking at the total picture and how each person functions in
life. Spinal manipulation has been practiced for over 4000 years dating back to ancient Egypt, Greece and India, but the practice
of Chiropractic as it is known today is only about 100 years old. As with all “alternative medicine” approaches,
it understands that the human body has a remarkable innate ability to heal itself if only given the right opportunity. By
restoring the natural motion in “stuck or fixated joints” along the spine, chiropractors are able to remove
any blockages of nerve flow from the brain/spinal cord to the rest of the body and vice-versa, allowing the body and the nervous
system to be fully connected and thereby allow your life force to flow unimpeded. Studies have shown, and years of observation
as well, that regular chiropractic treatments help to maintain overall health and wellbeing. People of all ages can benefit
from Chiropractic, from the very young to the very old. Massage Therapy The benefits of massage therapy are varied and far-reaching. In addition to relieving the stress and
tension of everyday life, massage has also proven beneficial for many chronic conditions such as low back pain, arthritis,
bursitis, fatigue, high blood pressure, diabetes, immune suppression, depression and many more. Massage is also very beneficial
while pregnant and may make for a more relaxed and easier pregnancy. Massage therapy can have a dramatic effect on emotional
and spiritual wellbeing, as well as physical wellbeing. The power of touch has the ability to heal and help balance the flow
of Chi or life force energy, as well as create a heightened sense of wellbeing and joy. Our therapists offer a wide range
of techniques and skills including Swedish and Deep Tissue massage, pregnancy massage, reflexology, Reiki and acupressure
to name a few. Massages are available in 30, 60 and 90 minute sessions. Pilates Core strengthening is the foundation of Pilates exercise. The core muscles are
the deep, internal muscles of the abdomen and back. When the core muscles are strong and doing their job, as they are trained
to do in Pilates, they work in tandem with the more superficial muscles of the trunk to support the spine and movement. As you develop your core strength you develop stability throughout your entire torso. As the trunk is properly stabilized,
pressure on the back is relieved and the body is able to move freely and efficiently. Utilizing a specially designed piece
of equipment called a Reformer, this innovative method educates, re-patterns, realigns and balances the body. It promotes
maximum muscle strength while increasing flexibility, coordination and stamina. Pilates is available in 30, 60 and 90 minute,
private one on onesessions. We also offer a weekly 1 hour group yoga/pilates fusion class outside on our enclosed balcony.
Core Fusion is a combination of Mat Pilates and Yoga. It focuses on posture, alignment, stability, stretching
and lengthening, and deep core work. Combined with Yoga, it incorporates flow and fluidity while moving through the
exercises. It leaves you feeling like you just had an all over body massage and leaves you with longer, leaner, and
stronger muscles. Nutrition Clinical nutrition is the study of
the relationship between food and the well-being of the body. More specifically, it is the science of nutrients and how
they are digested, absorbed, transported, metabolized, stored and discharged by the body. In addition to studying how food
works in the body, nutritionists are interested in how the environment affects the quality and safety of foods, and how these
factors influence health and disease. Clinical Nutritionists also incorporate nutritional supplements when needed to enhance
health and prevent disease.
The human body is more
than the sum of its biochemical reactions. Functional Clinical Nutrition examines core clinical imbalances that underlie
a condition. These imbalances are identified by examining fundamental physiological processes, including digestive, absorptive
and microbiological imbalances. We see the body as a fully interconnected
organism, within which everything affects everything else and nothing is truly isolated. Our whole system is interconnected
and multi-directional, from the soul to the mind to the body and back again. In
clinical nutrition, it is important to understand key sub-clinical (before overt symptoms) nutritional imbalances and their
potential effects on an individual. In this way we begin to see health as the presence of positive vitality, not just absence
of disease. Optimal health means the ability of the body to withstand the challenges of everyday life, like colds and
flu, increased stress, increased physical activity, our toxic environment and dietary changes.
